  Emerald Star provide "self-drive" cruising holidays in Ireland and through associated companies also provide cruising holidays throughout Europe. If you are looking for a fun family holiday that is completely different from anything you have ever done before, then this is the one for you. On arrival, you check in very much like a hotel and are given training on your cruiser. Checking in and out took no more than minutes and everything was explained to us. Training lasts about 45 minutes and then you are free to go and explore the River Shannon and the Shannon-Erne Waterway (depending on the size of your cruiser) for the duration of your holiday. We found Emerald Star staff to be friendly, efficient and very helpful which made us fell a lot more comfortable as it was our first time hiring a cruiser and they also took the time to explain things properly when we called them during the week that we had the cruiser with a couple of queries. They also had no problem with us bringing the family dog with us. The adventure and fun factors for this sort of break are right off the scale and Emerald Star really do provide a holiday experience that is so different. Emerald Star made it for us and yes, we are planning to return again next year. Two tips (1) make sure that you have covered what you want to in your training, and (2) you really need to be back at the Emerald Star base during the afternoon of the day before you are due to checkout (this isn't made clear).
